An Excellent GPS Carrying Case, Especially for 4.3" Garmin Units

I currently own two Garmin GPS units, the GARMIN 010-00656-00 Nuvi 250W Widescreen Travel Assistant and the Garmin nüvi 285W/285WT 4.3-Inch Widescreen Bluetooth Portable GPS Navigator with Traffic. Both are the same size.

Both fit perfectly in the Garmin 4.3-Inch Carrying Case. But, now that I own this AmazonBasics Carrying Case for Portable GPS Units (Black), which costs less and, I think, is better-made, I see no reason to buy the Garmin case.

This AmazonBasics unit is slightly smaller in exterior dimensions than the Garmin one, yet the AmazonBasics case is padded better. In addition, the AmazonBasics unit has elastic extensions on its sides rather than the vinyl ones on the Garmin; the extensions leave room at both the top and bottom of the sides in order to facilitate retrieving the GPS unit. It is easy to insert and remove my Garmins in either of these two cases.

Don't let the elastic sides dissuade you from the purchase; they appear to be quite robust and I am certain that this case will last at least as long, if not longer, than Garmin's own.

Like the Garmin case, the AmazonBasics case has a pocket; however about the only thing you could put into either would be a few small pieces of paper. Especially when the GPS is stored in either of the cases, it is difficult to retrieve anything stored in the pocket. Yet I suppose it's better to have it than not to have it. Someone may find a use for it.

Since AmazonBasics has begun, I have obtained several of their items. In all cases thus far I have found the items to be at least comparable to the "name-brand" equivalent (and better made in some cases) and they are priced lower. In my opinion, Amazon Basics products represent good value for money.

The "frustration-free" packaging is a bonus; though you DO need an implement to open the box (I use an ordinary letter opener), there is none of the teeth-gnashing associated with those "wonderful modern" plastic packaging which are now so ubiquitous. (I detest that type of packaging!)

I give this little case five stars in its category - for its construction, for its design, for its usefulness, and for its price.

For owners of the Garmin 200-series GPS units, and for owners of other GPS units which are of the same size, I recommend this case highly.
good multi-purpose electronics holder

This is a nice cheap multi-purpose electronics holder. It expands to fit your device and is a good option if you like the flexibility of being able to use it eventually for a different GPS or other electronic device. The outside is stiff enough that it would take a good amount of pressure exerted on the case to damage any LCD screen inside. The sides and top are open, so this is not a good option if you're worried about collecting dust on a seldom-used device. The case expands to fit the device, and looks like it would comfortably fit devices that are up to 4.75 inches long and anywhere from 2.75 to 3.25 inches wide and .5 inches to .9 inches thick. The extra slot in front hardly opens and it would be hard to fit anything more than the shape and thickness of a few credit cards inside it. The "frustration-free packaging" is easy enough to work with that most people should be able to open it with just their hands. For the price and flexibility, it seems like a pretty good deal.
Simple and Elegant

This is a 3" x 5" x 1.25" case closed on 5 of its 6 sides by a leather-like surface on the front, bottom, and back with elastic panels on the sides. The top is open to access your GPS or whatever you decide to store in this case.

The case surrounds your GPS with 1/4" of padding/liner on the front, bottom, and back. The front and back have stiff inserts making accidental touch-screen activation nearly impossible. The sides are relatively unprotected by padding though the stiff edges of the front and back will provide some bumper safety.

The leather-like material is soft to the touch and sewn seams are very clean with no loose threads. There's a small pocket in front that will hold a credit card or two but not much else. An SD card could certainly fit in the pocket but trying to get it out would be difficult. There is also a pewter colored Amazon Basics medallion attached to the front that does not protrude through the cover so there is no potential of scratching or marring.

Depending on the size of your GPS, inserting your device will be relative easy but removing the GPS from the top may be difficult. My Navigon 7100 4.3" GPS is too large for the case making removal very difficult while my TomTom One XL 4.3" fits nicely.

There are gaps along the sides and above the elastic large enough to grip your GPS by the edges. This is a nice feature since this means you can avoid touching or applying pressure on the delicate front screen.

The AmazonBasics Carrying Case for Portable GPS Units (Black) is simple, attractive, and elegant in design. The materials are top notch as well as the fit and finish at an excellent price point.

This is a winner.

Wow, this is perfect for what I needed. This is essentially a little GPS envelope that my 4.3" Garmin slides into perfect and is held very snugly. The outer shell is not much more than a cushioned leather pocket but works great for protecting my GPS from scuffs and dings. It's not bulky in the least which means I can still carry my GPS in my pants pocket with ease and now not to have to worry about my expensive electronic device becoming scratched. Perfect for me.
It's all good!

While it's not really a surprise, these days, anything that shows this much value is a surprise. For the price, you get a well padded, good fitting case that fits my Nuvi and Magellan well. This is a great protective case, especially in a car with young children where your GPS may get knocked around, or when my wife puts the GPS in her bag. The screen and body are protected well enough. The side pocket is great for SD cards. It is not easy to get things out of the pocket, however, I like that because it means I won't lose my SD cards. It's not a huge pocket, but enough for some paper, cash, membery cards, etc.. If you have a GPS and do not have a case for it, this is a no brainer. It's "faux leather" exterior really looks and feels like leather, and the elastic bands are thick enough that durability should not be an issue. The stitching looks solid and well placed.....in short, it appears to me that this was made to last, and for the price, you are getting quite a bit.
